THE REFLECTIVE EDGES
EARTHQUAKE MEMORIAL COMPETITION
Christchurch, New Zealand
The proposal provides large gathering spaces and terraces that enable a platform for collective remembrance, while enclosed and finely curated interior spaces provide for a more intimate scale of memorial.
Sculptural forms and landscape architecture reform the language of the river's edge while creating connective opportunities across the spine of the Avon.
The narrative of the memorial is expressed through Four scales of Remembrance:
City Identity | scale of place
Resilience of Spirit | scale of community
Lost Landmarks | scale of object
Living Memory | personal scale
