LONDON METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY

COMPETITION ENTRY

London, United Kingdom

The design competition for a new public square at the London Metropolitan University was a chance to offer a space for the students of the creative industries to test their ideas in the public realm, challenging the notion that a square only has one function. We proposed that flexibility is a fundamental part of campus life and that the square needed to be a place for makers to make, performers to perform and creators to create

It offers the opportunity for chance encounters to manifest through interdisciplinary diversity and an outward openness to the public to be involved or simply understand and view the insides of an institution. For it to be successful, it required a space that allowed a diversity of possibilities to manifest, reflecting the culture of the campus and the development of new ideas.
